text: some paintings sing from the very start. it’s amazing and it’s also confusing because they don’t all do that. so it’s tempting to trash the ones that don’t work right away. but don’t do that, because some of those come together and the muckiness it took to get there becomes part of the beauty. it’s like any relationship: some are perfect right out of the gate, and some take a lot more work. and some are just meant to teach us something on the way to the trash can.
